Pharmaceutical Specifics

A Fast Start

The day begins shortly after midnight when our client sends us an electronic account of all the items on that day's shipment. Our central call center in Atlanta monitors this process and notifies the client if there are any issues with the transmission or accuracy of the file. We then process this file in our system, creating a mission of routes, stops and individual packages for our owner-operator drivers.

Bin Delivery

When our client's tractor-trailers arrive at our cross dock facility, we verify receipt by scanning each piece individually. Items requiring special handling are identified immediately and refrigerated or locked in a cage. Warehouse personnel record damaged items directly on the scanner. Comparing the scanned records to the client's shipment file automatically generates an over, short and damaged report that is emailed to the client. Proper sorting, handling and preparation for transfer to the driver's custody are all part of the first steps in the chain of custody. All necessary client manifests are also sorted with the freight. All of our terminals follow precise standards for the handling of our customer's product.

Our owner-operator drivers arrive at our facility, drive their vehicles into the warehouse, and download their routes onto their handheld computers. Upon check-in at the terminal office, they enter the warehouse and scan each item into their possession. Any missorts are indicated by the scanner and re-sorted to their proper route. Overages are added to the route at this point, too. The drivers then load out their freight and depart for their first delivery. The entire sort and load-out process is videotaped for security purposes.

Van Delivery

Care on the Road

Our owner-operator drivers make their deliveries in locked and caged vehicles following recommended guidelines for last mile pharmaceutical distribution. Owner-operator drivers park in secure locations outside the pharmacy or hospital. The freight is then scanned and tendered to the customer. The scanner catches any misdeliveries. The customer signs the scanner to verify their receipt of the product. The driver inquires about returns, empty containers, paperwork, or any other items to be returned to the wholesaler, and then closes the delivery. This process is repeated at every stop, everyday. Our owner-operator drivers are mindful of patient considerations when performing multiple inside deliveries at hospitals or long term care facilities.

Realtime Updates

Both BeavEx and our clients need information about the day's activities as they occur. The scanners automatically push data to our dispatch system every two minutes. Field operations use this information to monitor route progress in real time. This is also the source for proof of delivery (POD) information; clients either query our website or we upload our scan data to their systems.

At the completion of their routes, all owner-operator drivers return to the warehouse, drop off client paperwork, and process their returns and empties. Returns and empties are processed, sorted, and loaded on to the next day's tractor trailer for delivery to the client's distribution center.
